Tremco illbruck Specification Seals Hemp Houses in Swindon
The Triange, Swindon
Hab Housing is constructing 30 properties at The Triangle in Swindon to Levels 4 and 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. It is also the first project to make use of the Futura Plus composite window developed by Ideal Combi, a manufacturer which has always recommended Tremco illbruck seals and adhesives for their high performance and reliability.
While the Birmingham office of Glenn Howells Architects has led the design team and Willmott Dixon is the main contractor, Midcon(uk)Ltd has been involved as the specialist window installer, employing Tremco illbruck’s Compriband 600 (illbruck TP600) and illbruck Elastic Foam (illbruck FM230) in combination.
Sealing the building envelope, while maintaining vapour permeability, is of particular importance at The Triangle as the three and four bedroom homes are being built to standards of airtightness well in excess of that required by the Building Regulations. The walls themselves feature an infill of Hempcrete within a deep section timber frame.
Warren Cattell of Midcon comments: “For the installation of the Ideal Combi Futura+ windows at the Triangle we are employing Compriband 600 (illbruck TP600) to seal to the render finish on the timber and Hempcrete elevations. Then rather than the EPDM we would normally use, we are utilising illbruck Elastic Foam because it achieves a better air seal than the standard PU foam which had been considered.
“Midcon is a recommended installer of Ideal Combi windows - which recommends Tremco illbruck – and we have been using the products successfully since 2002. We have completed 16 of the properties at The Triangle and installation has gone very well.”
In supplying Compriband 600 (illbruck TP600) and related products, including the i3 system, Tremco illbruck has been involved over the past couple of years in projects achieving all the upper levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes, and so called near zero carbon constructions.
